Our charities for 2017

Each year our staff choose local charities to support through various fund raising events throughout the year.  Our chosen charities for 2017 are:

Guide dog association for the blind

Throughout 2016 and for the first half of 2017 the Wills and Probate Department at Le Gallais & Luce will be donating a percentage of its will-writing fees to the Jersey Branch of the Guide Dogs for the Blind. We have currently raised in excess of £6,200.

Partner, Marianne Shaw, head of the Wills and Probate Department states ‘Le Gallais & Luce have had a long affinity with the Jersey Branch of Guide Dogs for the Blind dating back to 1938 when the charity’s first fund raising event, a golf competition held at the Royal Jersey Golf Club, was won by Mr Hedley Luce, Solicitor and one of the founding partners of the firm. In recent years a number of our clients have donated monies to the charity in their wills and as a result the Department has come to learn a great deal about the exceptional work that the charity undertakes on behalf of islanders with visual impairments. The wills initiative offered by Le Gallais & Luce is a great opportunity for the firm to support the local branch of the charity which provides much needed assistance to the local community.

Ken Syvret, Chairman of the Jersey Branch of Guide Dogs for the Blind, welcomes the initiative of Le Gallais & Luce saying “every pound raised for Guide Dogs means that a visually impaired person is that much closer to the assistance, freedom and companionship which the ownership of a Guide Dog provides. We are delighted to join forces with Le Gallais & Luce”.

The Food Bank at St Helier Methodist Centre

Le Gallais & Luce will be donating food every quarter to the Methodist Centre to support those people who are in a short-term crisis. This centre also helps applicants through the electricity vouchers and a community café they have on site provides hot food. If you wish to make a donation they are open and contactable during working hours all week.

Red Nose Day

We created a fun filled couple of months on the lead up to Red Nose Day with 2 bake offs, guess the baby, a darts competition and a pub quiz! Everyone in our office got involved with the activities and many people came to our pub quiz. Through these events Le Gallais & Luce raised an impressive £1,142.57!

St Peter’s Ladies Football Team

We are pleased to continue with our sponsorship of the St Peter’s Ladies Football Team for the 2016/2017 season.  We wish them all the best for the season ahead. Two members of the team, Goal Keeper Chantelle Audrain (centre) & Midfielder Holly Muirhead (right), were also in the Gold Medal winning Jersey team at the Island Games.

Staff day trip to Les Echrehous

It initially seemed like a windy day and a trip to be cancelled, however the weather brightened up and Le Gallais & Luce decided to troop on.  When we arrived at Les Echrehous it brightened up and we had an enjoyable day where we relaxed, took in the sights and some even went swimming! Sadly we were not accompanied by any dolphins on the journey, but did see some seals lying around on the rocks. Once the day was over we made our way back to Jersey (a lot more bumpy this time!) and finished with a picnic in St Catherine. Overall a lovely day enjoyed by all.
